Nestled on the corner of Arch Street and Avenue C, you will find Ellison Family Chiropractic. Dr. Ellison purchased Leno Chiropractic in May 2019 after joining the practice as an intern and then associate doctor in 2014. Dr. Ellison is joined in practice by Moose Lake native and associate doctor Dr. Katie Larson.
Together they provide Chiropractic care, specializing in pregnancy, pediatrics, and sports, along with massage therapy and DOT medical examinations.
For those unfamiliar with chiropractic care, it is a drug-free, non-surgical science. In addition, chiropractic is a holistic practice; therefore, treatment extends beyond the time spent in the doctor's office. Along with massage and chiropractic adjustments, doctors of chiropractic also recommend a program of stretching, exercise, good nutrition, and lifestyle changes to promote better overall health. Chiropractic is a primary health care profession that diagnoses, treats, and prevents neuromuscular disorders. Chiropractors assess joint stability and function to determine the nature of musculoskeletal disorders. Chiropractic treatment involves joint manipulation (adjustments), soft tissue work, rehabilitation through exercises, and general health and lifestyle counseling.
Dr. Kayla Ellison is certified to use a special assessment, and adjustment protocol with pregnant women called Webster Technique. When the sacrum is misaligned, it can cause undue tension to the ligaments and musculature in the pelvis, particularly the round ligament, as it gets stronger and wider in pregnancy. Using Webster Technique, pelvic mobility and function are improved, thus optimizing fetal positioning and labor progression. Women who have had chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy report faster and more comfortable deliveries compared to previous ones without chiropractic care.
After the baby is born, she also provides adjustments to newborns. The birthing process, even under natural and controlled conditions, has the potential to be traumatic. The pushing stages of labor are especially compressing on the infant and can cause subluxation to the spine. Symptoms of these subluxations may not be immediate. Still, they may manifest themselves as issues with breastfeeding, chronic ear infections, bedwetting, asthma, attention issues, sleep issues, reflux, colic, depressed immune system, and much more. Drs. Ellison and Larson have adjusted infants that are only hours old.
Did you know some professional sports teams employ chiropractic doctors because it can help restore function to spinal joints that are "locked up," fixated, and not moving properly? Besides helping to relieve the pain, chiropractic care can also help reduce inflammation. Both Dr. Ellison and Dr. Larson work with the athlete to keep them functioning at their best.
Who doesn't need a good massage? Amara Parks provides massage out of their office. She specializes in deep tissue massage as an additional service offered in the chiropractic office. Massage therapy provides many health benefits, including alleviating back pain, improving range of motion, assisting with shorter and easier labor for expectant mothers, helping athletes prepare for and recover from strenuous workouts, improving circulation, reducing spasms and cramping, and releasing endorphins- amino acids that work as the body's natural pain killer.
Suppose you require a DOT Medical Examinations, Drs. Kayla Ellison and Katie Larson are Certified Medical Examiners through the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) and comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association's (FMCSA) and have a primary goal to ensure public safety. A medical examination is required for commercial drivers every two years (more often in some cases) to determine whether a driver is safe to do their job duties and be on the road. It includes a health history, comprehensive physical examination (including vision, hearing, and blood pressure), lab work, consultation with other providers (as needed), driver safety assessment, driver health counseling, and proper documentation/reporting. Upon successful completion of the examination process, the driver will be issued a Medical Examiner's Certificate.
