Entrepreneurs Dean and Alison Crotteau are at it again, opening 218 TapHouse at 918 South Hwy 33, paying tribute to the 218-Northeast Minnesota area code and its various craft features.
The couple also owns Cold One Liquor in the same building complex and has strong business relationships with distributors. The beer wall has 29 taps, featuring brews, ciders, seltzers, and THC-infused beverages, the majority of which are local from Duluth, Superior, and northern-area breweries, with a few from the Twin Cities. They also have a full bar, specialty cocktails, mocktails (non-alcoholic and fun for kids), and sodas. So, how does the beer wall work? Customers provide their license and payment, receive a wristband scanned at each tap of choice, and then start the pour. In the end, your wristband tallies your payment due.
218 TapHouse also features three lanes of duckpin bowling that can be reserved in advance. This rear duck-pin bowling room can also be reserved for birthday parties or special events. The facility seats up to 75 customers, has a variety of high- and low-height tables, bar seating, and a standing room, and is family-friendly.
Dean and Alison Crotteau chose local partners to develop this business, including Ray Riihiluoma Inc. for construction and Sammy’s Pizza on the food menu for ordering and delivery.
Snacks are also available next door from the Premiere Theatre concession stand, which features movie theater popcorn, pretzel bites, mini donuts, and more.
“In the future, we plan to join the live camera systems for Minnesota hockey so that hockey families can monitor their kids at games and practices on our televisions here,” said owner Dean Crotteau.
“There will be plenty of variety featuring quarterly, seasonal, and limited brews, ciders, and seltzers,” said Alison Crotteau.
