If you've driven through downtown Cloquet lately, you've probably noticed something exciting happening at 901 Cloquet Avenue. What started as a small antique marketplace has quickly become one of the area's fastest-growing destinations for vintage lovers, collectors, home decorators, and treasure hunters.

Business owner Joanne Leland officially opened the Cloquet Antique Marketplace in April 2025 after years of experience in the antique industry. Her journey began at Old Towne Antiques in downtown Duluth, where she worked alongside well-known Cloquet auctioneer Bones Crandall. It was Crandall who introduced Joanne to the Cloquet community and helped inspire what has become one of downtown's newest success stories.

When the Old Towne Antiques building was demolished, Joanne saw an opportunity to build something of her own. Less than a year after opening her first Cloquet location, customer demand made it clear that expansion was the next step.

Following extensive renovations, the Cloquet Antique Marketplace celebrated the soft opening of its beautiful new location at 901 Cloquet Avenue on January 7, 2026. The move transformed the business from a small marketplace with only a handful of vendors into a thriving shopping destination featuring approximately 25–30 vendor booths—nearly tripling its original capacity. Even with the expanded footprint, vendor space remains in high demand, and Joanne already maintains a waiting list.

The marketplace offers an ever-changing collection of antiques, vintage décor, collectibles, furniture, glassware, kitchenware, vinyl records, handcrafted gifts, locally made products, seasonal décor, jewelry, artwork, and one-of-a-kind finds. No two visits are ever the same, making each shopping trip a new adventure.

Joanne also owns the Duluth Antique Marketplace in West Duluth and has recently expanded into Superior with an additional vendor location. While Joanne and her daughter oversee the Duluth operation, Jen manages the day-to-day operations of the Cloquet store, creating a welcoming shopping experience for customers from across the Northland.

In addition to offering vendor spaces, Joanne purchases antiques outright through wholesale buying and welcomes conversations with anyone looking to sell individual pieces, collections, or estate items.

"We are thrilled with our expanded space. The store works so well now," Joanne shared.

The success of the expansion has also allowed the business to increase its hours, making it even easier for customers to stop in and browse the constantly rotating inventory.

One of Joanne's favorite parts of the business is seeing how every community develops its own personality.

"One thing I notice in the Twin Ports area is that each market is totally different. In Superior it's traditional antiques, while here in Cloquet the style is very cottagey. People buy items that remind them of what their parents or grandparents owned."

That sense of nostalgia extends beyond the store itself. Earlier this year, Joanne organized a sold-out Shop Hop Bus Trip, taking 42 antique enthusiasts on a day-long adventure to six antique destinations across the region—bringing together people who simply enjoy discovering history, craftsmanship, and unique treasures.

Whether you're searching for that perfect vintage piece, decorating your cabin, adding character to your home, looking for a unique gift, or simply enjoying an afternoon of browsing, Cloquet Antique Marketplace offers something for everyone.

The inventory changes daily, the stories behind the pieces are endless, and you never know what treasure you'll discover next.
