Downtown Cloquet Welcomes The Loft — A New Destination for Quality Style

After 11 successful years serving the Duluth community, The Loft has expanded — bringing its thoughtfully curated boutique consignment experience to downtown Cloquet. Business owner Laurie Gillen officially opened the second location on November 8, 2025, after purchasing the bright, inviting storefront at 1108 Cloquet Avenue and transforming it into a stunning 5,000-square-foot retail space designed for discovery, connection, and quality.

The Loft is known for its high-end, name-brand consignment and thrift offerings, featuring clothing for women, men, and infants, along with home goods, handbags, shoes and boots, jewelry, jackets, and more. The Cloquet location offers a unique shopping experience, including expanded men’s inventory, dedicated scrubs and western wear sections, and — by design — no dresses, allowing the store to focus on fast-moving, high-quality everyday and lifestyle pieces.

Quality is the cornerstone of The Loft’s business model. Items are accepted on a 60-day consignment cycle with a 50/50 sales split, ensuring fresh inventory and intentional selection.

“We have no bad stock — we are very selective with what we take. It’s all about quality,” shared owner Laurie Gillen. “Our goal with every visitor that comes through our doors is that they leave happier than when they arrived.”

Since opening, The Loft Cloquet has been consistently busy, with strong community support and a growing base of consignors. The store is managed by Dena Olson, supported by part-time and volunteer staff, while Laurie continues developing additional rooms in the rear of the space to fully bring her long-term vision to life.

“The response from the Cloquet area and surrounding business owners has been so wonderful — we are so glad we came here!” Laurie added.
